AMERICAN BALLET COMPANY ABT

AMERICAN BALLET COMPANY ABT
American Ballet Theater?

I just want to know what is ABT like. Is it a school? If it is do you have academic classes and do you stay there like in dorms? What is the best age they accept you into the school or dance company?

The school for ABT(American Ballet Theater) is the JKO school. They do not have dorms like SAB has. They work the classes around the students academic day. They do not teach any academics. They are strictly dance classes. http://www.abt.org/education/jko_school.asp
They have a childrens division from ages 5-12 then a pre professional division which feeds the ABT company.
At the age of 16 or 17 students may be asked to join ABTII. After about a year, they may be asked to join the company as an apprentice. Then if lucky to join the corps de ballet.. Many dancers are trained from the ranks of the school from very young. Others come from SAB, MYB or schools like the Harid Conservatory. Many come from Europe from POB (Paris Opera Ballet) or RB(The Royal Ballet) or the Stuttgart ballet. Still others from the Mariinsky (Kirov) ballet, and join the school for a year or go right into ABT II. (With the exception of Daniil Simkin who joined the main company as a soloist a year ago October.)
