AUSTRALIAN BALLET SCHOOL GRADUATES
Is it too late to start ballet again?

This is for my friend.
She did ballet from about 3 until 5, then quit.
And she started last year for a term (10 weeks).
And now, next year, when she’ll be 12, shes starting again.
Next year she’s getting her pointes.
She’s really passionate about it, and all she ever talks about is dancing.
And when she graduates high school, she’s doing a full time course of dance.

Is it too late for her to start again and become pro?
She’s auditioning when she’s 18 or 19 for Australian Ballet.
Is her experience enough if she continues her training up until then?
We were both in Intermediate Foundation.

To get into the Australian ballet, she is not in the right school. She would need to be in a ballet academy and not taking graded ballet. Graded ballet is for recreational dancers. She is getting pointe shoes way too early in regards to her training level.
If she is really interested in dancing with the Australian Ballet, she should be going full time to their school. http://www.australianballetschool.com.au/content/programme
Girls apprentice at age 16 there and then join the company at 17 if asked. You don’t audition out of the blue at 18 or 19 with only a graded ballet background.
To be what they are looking for, you must be academy trained. 12 is very late to start, but doable if she has the right body. Ballet training doesn’t really start until age 7 so what she did at 3-5 was just pre-ballet and doesn’t count for anything.
