I started ballet at the tender age of 4. When I was young, I always dream of becoming a great ballerina. However,it will never come true! I had learnt ballet for many years and I am now in grade eight. I couldn’t stand going for ballet class anymore, I don’t know why. Everytime the class ends I will always feel sad, dissapointed like a looser! This is because I cannot dance! I am just some looser who is not willing to accept that I don’t have any talent in dancing ballet. I have always wanted to stop. Then, I wouldn’t feel so depressed. My exam marks are very low and I had accepted it as I know I am horrible in dancing! I practised 4 times a week although I have to travel around 15 km from my house to the ballet studio, but I don’t know why I just have no feelings, no presence when dancing. My technique is not too good too! I want to stop! But this will just make my parents dissapointed! They had spend alot of money on my ballet fees and attire.
Have you sought extra help or asked questions? Does your instructor point out what you are doing wrong? You should be doing exercises at home every day because you need to work on your flexibility. The most important part of dancing is that you enjoy it. It takes time and consistent/regular effort to become good. You are still very young. Everyone develops at their own pace. You may not to see real improvement until you are 16. If you enjoy ballet then keep at it. Start doing pilates. Ask your instructor what else you can do. Maybe ballet isn’t natural for you (and it’s not for a lot of dancers) so you are going to have to work a bit harder but if you enjoy it then it’s not so bad. I love to dance. I studied gymnastics and ballet. I also took tap and jazz dance lessons. It sounds like you may need measurable and short-term goals that work towards a larger goal. Talk to your instructor. Tell your feelings and thoughts. I’m sure that she or he can be of real assistance to you. Don’t give up unless you really hate it.
Forget about the talent thing. It’s too soon to tell.
