Does your toddler enjoy classical music?
I used to love classical music as a young child and had to listen to it each night in order to fall asleep. My love of classical music stemmed from classical ballet classes. I still enjoy listening to it but have a limited knowledge of the composers and can only name perhaps 5 pieces by ear. My 3 year old daughter seems to love classical music too (especially Schubert). Need some ideas on how I can learn and teach my daughter about the composers. Books, cd’s, dvds aimed at toddlers or children that explain a brief history of the composers and their works?

I don’t know if this really counts since composers aren’t really the main focus, but the Little Einsteins shows (which they have on DVD) are usually written around a famous classical theme and at the end they identify them and the composer. So if anything your child can learn famous themes and who wrote them.
You can read up on the composers and educate your little one on your own, chances are they will remember the tune more than the history anyway.

That site looks like a good start! Something fun you can do as a family, keep a lookout for what your local music scene is up to. If a showing of Peter and the Wolf comes by, you should check it out. It’s, as you guess, the telling of the Peter and the Wolf story, but with background music. The instruments personify the different animals so groups use the show as an opportunity to teach the kids about the different instruments and the like. It’s a cute show and always gets a good audience. It’s a bonus because some groups will get someone relatively famous to be the narrator. I’ve played this piece several times and have performed them with people like Danny Glover, Wendy Malick (sp?), and Robin Williams.
Another one that is good to see, but not as commonly performed, is Babar the Elephant. I like that one more just because I’ve performed Peter and the Wolf so many times LOL it’s nice to have a change of pace for a kids concert 
Good luck and thank you for teaching your little one about the joys of classical music. With all the garbage that gets passed as “good music” these days, we need more true music-lovers for the future, it’s indeed a dying art.
