Requirements to meet to be Christine Daae in the London West End production? (Especially English people!)?
Are there any specific requirements to being Christine Daae in London, The Phantom of the Opera? Like, a specific Grade you have to have in singing? How about ballet? And is there an age limit as well? And to be onstage, how tall do you have to be?
(Americans who answer this, I sincerely apologise, but over here in the UK, we have grades in music that we take exams along with music theory and aural for: Grades 1 to 8. So you may not know EXACTLY what I’m talking about when it comes to this musical education system).
There’s no specific requirement in terms of grades needed; you do need to be a strong soprano who can hit a high E (although some of the big notes are pre-recorded) and have a basic level of ballet, although I don’t think Christine does that much of the ballet. They are very unlikely to take anyone under the age of 18 (the voice simply isn’t mature enough before that) and they’re also very unlikely to take anyone from an open audition – you need an agent. An agent will be able to answer all your questions about the role as well…
