BALLET INJURIES KNEE
How can I excercise with an injury?

Okay, so I’m a dancer (ballet mostly) and I have recently sustained a knee injury. I have been told by my doctor to rest it completely for six weeks and see what happens…but the problem is, I don’t want to stop excercising completely, so what should I do? Are there any easy excercises that wouldn’t put pressure on my knees? The doctor is worried that I will get my shin splints back if I go back to dancing too quickly, but I really don’t want to get fat in my time off! Please help?!

I would try water aerobic, water running, also for shin splints you can lay face down on the bed and put your toes off the end of your bed and then pull your feet into the bed and that will strengthen the muscles in the front of your legs which will help you get rid of the shin splints.. I did the exercise when I ran marathons and it got rid of my shin splints.. And every athlete I have worked on/trained it has worked for them to deal with shin splints..
as far as your knee goes, I would look up Pete Egoscue on the internet he has a wonderful book that would help you. He is an Anatomical Doctor and his book is about making sure your muscles are moving the bones correctly..and what exercises to do, (which) which are quite simple, but work very well. You will be able to get his book online or at like Barnes and Noble, borders. etc..
I’ve used the exercises for myself. I do hawaiian massage along with train professional athletes and use the exercises for them as well.
