Effectively Practicing Ballet

I wanted to talk to you about effectively practicing ballet. This is a dance and a sport in one. It’s dance because that is what you’re doing, but it’s a sport because of how grueling it can be and how hard you are required to train. There are those that who started this at a young age and those that started a little later in their life. You all have the potential to be very good at this, but it requires effective training that will produce the best results possible. Once you have the right practicing methods in place, you’ll surely grow. I’m going to talk to you about effectively practicing ballet The first thing you need to recognize is that this is a dance of strength and a dance of flexibility. This requires training that is often counter to the next. You probably haven’t seen a power lifter that had much flexibility and you probably haven’t seen a yoga instructor lift anything heavy. I found that working each 50-50 is the best and really the only way to get an effective balance between the two. I work half my time on the weights getting strength and I work the other half on my stretching to help improve it. Another aspect of effectively practicing ballet is practicing in front of a mirror. When you’re in the ballet studio you’ll have mirrors on all the walls, so you can see yourself from different angles. Obviously you won’t have that many mirrors, but doing your training in front of one mirror is a good way to get a third party look at what you’re doing to make sure it looks right.

A Chorus Line (1975 Original Broadway Cast) (Multichannel/Stereo SACD)

Michael Bennett’s 1975 tale of Broadway’s gypsies–the chorus dancers–resonated with audiences as few shows ever have, examining with both hilarity and heartbreak the grueling life of ordinary performers always auditioning for an opportunity to be members of a faceless chorus line. And along the way, it picked up the Pulitzer, the New York Drama Critics Award, and nine Tonys, and became the longe…
