BASIC BALLET BARRE EXERCISES

Could I go on pointe (or another higher dance class)?

I’ve taken Ballet (and Jazz [1 year]) classes before, and I was in my fourth Ballet when I left. (They called it 3/4, don’t know why, and I had to take Ballet 1 again because I was too young for Ballet 2) I left when I was twelve, I came back when I was thirteen (About a year later) and I had to start on Ballet 1 again. I had to leave (AGAIN!) cause of the Recession and because my cousin wanted my family and I to attend his wedding.

Through out all the times that I have been out of dance, I’ve been practicing 3-4 days (About an hour each day) out of the week, with basic barre exercises and stretches. Along with that, since I entered high school, they offer a dance class (which to me is like Beginners Jazz) for PE credit which I take. Not to mention, my ankles are fairly strong for being out that much.

I just want to know in case I ever want to enter some dance classes again (cause I want to SO bad… it’s just too much money for my folks right now)

It really depends on your strength. You’d have to be taking ballet classes at least three days a week to take pointe as well. Pointe requires strong ankles and feet, but also other technique as well–core strength, control of turn out, etc. I don’t think anyone on the internet could tell you whether or not you were ready; you really need to start taking ballet classes again and then talk to your instructor.
In the meantime, you can keep strengthening your feet/ankles by working with a theraband, doing ankle rolls, and lots and lots of tendus, degages, pas de chavals and releves. Basic ballet movements are really really helpful in gaining strength through articulation.
Good luck! I hope you can start taking classes again soon :]
