ROYAL BALLET SCHOOL AUDITIONS

Auditioning for the Royal Ballet School?
I live in America and plan to audition for the Royal Ballet School in Richmond Park. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve wanted to dance professionally. I am 12 years old, weight: 6.4 stone/ 89 lbs., and have danced since I was 2 but quit after 4 years then came back around last year. In total I’ve been dancing for 5 years and are en pointe.
So here are my questions:
1.) Do I stand a chance
2.) How is the academics
3.) Do they have a lot of ethnic groups
4.) Am I a good age to start? (12)
Any ballet training before age 7 is pre ballet and really doesn’t count. Your body is physically unable to do the correct positions at that young an age. So, essentially you just started last year. The fact that you are en pointe is somewhat troublesome. You really cannot be strong enough in body, let along technique to be at that level. RB school puts their dancers en pointe at 13 (occasional few at 12.) Some do come at age 12 already en pointe, but they have been dancing steadily from age 7.
If I were you and prepping for this, I would work exclusively on flat to get my technique as strong as possible. I really don’t know about the academics there, most start there at age 11 or 12, and come from great training. Some have had little or no training, but have potential at age 11 and 12. Past 12 you better have had some good technique training. I have seen mixed ethnicity in the school, but honestly have not see a lot of black students. Boys some, girls very few if any as I try to recall.
Do you have a chance? I have no clue. If you try you have a chance.
